Vocalist Amii Stewart, perhaps best known for her 1979 disco cover of Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood”, is back with a new single titled “Sunshine Girl.” For the track, Amii teamed up with Italian DJ and producer Gabriele Ponte, formerly a member the of Italian dance group Eiffel 65. The collaboration really isn’t much of a surprise considering the fact that Steward moved to Italy in the 80s and released several singles on international labels.

“Sunshine Girl” isn’t likely to put Amii Stewart back on the top of the pop charts, but it could have a strong presence on dance radio, especially with Ponte on board. Amii Stewart still has a stunning voice that has held up very well over the years. The song itself could be considered conventional dance radio filler, but there’s no shame in that. It sounds best when played loudly. “Sunshine Girl” is out now on iTunes.

While other artists who gained fame in the 80s are slowly creeping into Starbucks territory, Jade Starling has her sights firmly focused on the dancefloor. Starling, who gained fame in 1987 as the lead vocalist for the five-piece Philadelphia dance group Pretty Poison, is back with a fantastic new club track titled “Insomniak.” The song offers up our first official taste of her forthcoming solo album, Captive, which is scheduled for release in the fall of this year.

With fantastic production work from Lee Dagger of remix team Bimbo Jones (yes, Kylie!), “Insomniak” is a song with a twisting beat and enough thumps to keep you moving at the gym or the club. The chorus climbs to dizzying heights before dropping into a frenzy of sounds that can only be described as pure musical ecstasy. If dance radio had enough balls to give this song a fair shot, it could be massive. MASSIVE. It has an undeniable commercial appeal while still maintaining a fresh sound. If you thought the best thing Starling had to offer was “Catch Me (I’m Falling)”, you couldn’t be more mistaken. Check out the lyric video for “Insomniak” below. Also, keep an eye out for mixes of the track from Lee Dagger himself, DJ Scott Mann, Dark Intensity, Bisbetic, Alex Preston and Chris Cox.
