Single Review: Berlin – “It’s the Way”

Pioneering synth pop band Berlin is back with a brand new studio album titled Animal. Unfortunately, Berlin opted to release the ballad “It’s The Way” as the first single from the album. Weighed down by dated, sappy production, it is the absolute weakest track on the new LP. “It’s The Way” has potential, and lead singer Terri Nunn has never sounded better; but the lifeless production makes the song feel void of any real emotion. This song could have been good, but the arrangement and production doesn’t let it come anywhere close to its potential. From the band that brought us one of the greatest ballads of the 80s (Take My Breath Away), this is a huge disappointment.

On a more positive note, for the most part, Berlin’s new album, Animal, is fantastic. It also appears Berlin has chosen “Animal” as the next single. That’s a step in the right direction. Take a listen to “It’s The Way” and a remix of “Animal” below.

If you haven’t heard of UK-based Synthpop band Low Tide Theory, you have been missing out on some pretty damn good tunes. But fear not, the band released their debut album, Big Sky, in America on April 7th of this year via iTunes. The LP features the fantastic single “Crash,” a track that draws inspiration from the best synthpop the 80′s had to offer while still maintaining a fresh, current sound. Pay attention, everyone. Please pay attention to Low Tide Theory. We need more music like this.
