Single Review: Mariah Carey – “Thirsty”

Sadly, it’s been a while since I actually really enjoyed a song from Mariah Carey. If truth be told, the last time I can remember really getting into a song by the elusive chanteuse was way back in 2008 when she released the infectious “Touch My Body.” That all changed today when Mariah premiered her fantastic new single “Thirsty.”

Boasting a throbbing beat and glossy production, “Thirsty,” a track from her forthcoming album, Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, finds Mariah back at the top of her pop music game. The mid-tempo romp about a guy riding on Mimi’s coattails just to cash in on her fame crescendos to a booming chorus that will stay with you well after the song has finished playing. Unlike recent forgettable singles, “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” and “You’re Mine (Eternal)”, “Thirsty” finds Mariah back in full command of the song and demanding the listeners full attention. Mariah is one of pop music’s most recognizable stars, so it’s great to see her back in her element.

Mariah will release her fourteenth studio album, Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, on May 27, 2014 by Def Jam. The record features production from Rodney Jerkins, Jermaine Dupri, David Morales, Hit-Boy and Atlanta-based producer Mike Will Made It, and includes contributions from Miguel, Nas, Fabolous, and Carey’s twins Moroccan and Monroe.
