Single Review: Tourist feat. Will Heard – “I Can’t Keep Up”

UK producer Tourist, real name William Phillips, will release his new self-produced EP Patterns in America on April 22nd via Monday Records.

Supported by a polished, driving production from Tourist himself, the song “I Can’t Keep Up,” which features vocals from British soul and jazz singer/songwriter Will Heard, serves as the perfect introduction to a producer that clearly has a long career ahead of him. Combine that with Heard’s intense voice, and it’s hard to go wrong. Like many British male vocalists that have emerged over the past few years, Heard possesses an intoxicating mix of vocal power and soul that immediately demands your attention. His vocal performance on “I Can’t Keep Up” perfectly compliments the desperation and vulnerability found within the songs’ passionate lyrics. Heard interprets the song with a conviction that could only be conveyed by someone who has experienced these emotions first hand.

Just when it seems all hope is lost for mainstream pop music, a song like “I Can’t Keep Up” emerges to reignite my passion for the genre. It puts a smile on my face just knowing that there are still artists out there working on intelligent pop music that offers the listener more than good twerking material. As I mentioned, Tourist will release the EP Patterns, which features “I Can’t Keep Up”, in America on April 22nd.
