The gay drama Burning Blue – starring British-American actor and model Trent Ford and The Last Airbender actor Morgan Spector – is a love story about two pilots engaging in a secret romance. The film, which will be released in select U.S. theaters and VOD on June 6th, was originally an acclaimed Off-Broadway play. The story centers on the relationship between two Navy fighter pilots during the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” era. The romantic drama is now a film directed and co-written by DMW Greer, who wrote the original play.
“In 1987, a classmate and fellow Navy Pilot was killed in an accident while piloting a routine jet training flight over the California desert,” Greer says. “While I’d lost several friends in aviation accidents, ‘Matt’s’ death was different. While it did not fully occur to me until he was gone, I realized I’d been in love with him for many years. It was something understood and experienced together but never discussed.”
Adding: “It was a devastating loss, nearly overwhelming. Still as all military aviators are trained to do I worked to isolate and compartmentalize everything – putting the experience aside and carrying on.” This complicated relationship would serve as the inspiration for Burning Blue.
