Holly Johnson, best known as the lead vocalist of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, will release a brand new solo album titled Europa on September 29th. The album, his fourth overall release and first in 15 years, features contributions from Greek composer Vangelis, long-time collaborator Mark Ralph, Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera, Vini Reilly of Durutti Column, Eric Kupper and the late Frankie Knuckles. Johnson describes Europa as “a kind of retrospective of me as a songwriter. It’s the product of a life in pop music. And one thing you learn is that, every time you make a record, it might be the last one. So you’d better make it good, you’d better make it positive, and you’d better enjoy it.”
Today, Johnson premiered the song “In and Out of Love,” which will serve as the second single from Europa. The artwork for the song is based on an original painting by Holly himself. The single is out right now on iTunes.
Holly Johnson released his last studio album, Soulstream, in 1999. The record contained an updated version of his hit song with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, “The Power of Love”, which hit the UK charts at No. 56, as well as a re-working of his 1994 single “Legendary Children (All of Them Queer)”.
