After inking a new record deal with Nettwerk Music Group, it has been announced that “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer Sinéad O’Connor will release her brand new studio album, The Vishnu Room, worldwide on August 12, 2014.
“Having published Sinead as a songwriter for the last 5 years, it’s great to now broaden that relationship to the Nettwerk label too. The new recordings are incredible and we’re all very excited to be working on this worldwide release for later this year,” says Blair McDonald, MD of Nettwerk Music Group UK.
The Vishnu Room is named after Vishnu — the Supreme God of Vaishnavism. “Well, the religion I identify with the most is Hinduism, although I hate ‘ism.’ I have in my bedroom a mural that I got a friend of mine to paint of Vishnu, who is the Hindu equivalent of the Holy Spirit,” Sinéad revealed in an interview with U-T San Diego last year. “It’s all flowers and smiles, and much brighter than what I was raised with, which was the image of a crucified man, who I somehow had some responsibility for.
“Vishnu is the supreme Godhead and lives in the core of everyone’s heart. So, that’s on the wall of my bedroom and it’s going to be an album of very romantic songs, not that much ever happens in my bedroom.”
It’s been two years since Sinéad O’Connor released her last studio album, How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?. The album, which peaked at number 115 on the US Billboard 200, spawned three singles: “The Wolf Is Getting Married,” “4th and Vine” and “Old Lady.”
