Jimmy Somerville: “I have always wanted to make a proper homage to the disco era”

In a new interview with Release Music Magazine, former Bronski Beat vocalist Jimmy Somerville has opened up about his forthcoming studio album, Homage. Speaking about the disco album, which finds the singer once again working with long-time producer John Winfield, Somerville says: “I have always wanted to make a proper homage to the disco era. Not a pastiche but an album true to the disco genre.

“I have always wanted to do this but now is the first time I really have felt that I have the confidence to do it. And the process was unbelievable – I have worked with close friends in the studio and it has worked out so well. So well that we actually just kept going and we are already recording stuff for another album.”

According to Release, Jimmy will self-release Homage early next year. The first single from the record,”Back To Me,” will be released September 19th! You can sample the new single over on Amazon Germany (link). To read the full interview with Release, click here.

Somerville released his last album, Suddenly Last Summer, a collection of cover songs, in 2009.
