Legendary singer-songwriter Annie Lennox will release a new album titled Nostalgia on October 21st. The album, Annie’s 7th overall, is a collection of the iconic singer’s impassioned takes on standards primarily from the 1930s and 1940s, many of them popularized by the likes of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Jo Stafford and Louis Armstrong. The music on Nostalgia was mostly played by Annie alongside her long-time collaborator and co-producer, Mike Stevens and was recorded in his West London studio.
“I went deeper because, for me, the origin of these songs is the blues. Blues comes from something beautiful and painful – and it’s the mixture of the two things. And that’s an area that I know very well,” Lennox explains. “I thought, if I’m going to try this, I’m going to get right to the nub of the song. You commune with the song and if the melody is speaking back to you, it guides you into where you need to go with it.”
